Shirley M. Fountain,
LCMT
Massage, Reiki, Shamanic Practitioner 617-308-2654

Shirley M. Fountain, Massage Therapist,
Reiki Master and Shamanic Practitioner, came to Amethyst Center in
September 2003 and established Butterfly Touch Therapeutic Healing &
Massage after completing her studies at DoveStar Schools of Holistic
Technology in Carver, MA. She is also a graduate of the Eye of the
Eagle Shamanic Studies program.
Shirley brings many years of experience to her therapeutic
massage practice by way of her own personal journey to health and
emotional renewal. “Growing up I was always giving back rubs to family
and friends. Even while attending college, many times I could be found
in the student lounge massaging the arms, hands, or shoulders of one of
my musical colleagues. I enjoyed being able to physically comfort those
in need. But in doing so, it made me realize how much I was in need of
healing.”
As childhood issues, family dysfunction, personal and familial
depression began to surface and take its toll on her body, mind and
spirit, Shirley worked with many different practitioners to bring her to
a place of wholeness, and peace. “I found myself constantly gravitating
toward practitioners who were willing to take the time to listen to me,
through my body as well as my words. Through those sessions I began to
understand the energy of the body, mind and spirit.” Those healing
experiences developed in her a deep desire to nurture and support others
through some of the difficult moments in their lives.
Shirley
strongly believes in a person’s ability to heal on all levels and the
purpose of her practice is to assist each person in the healing.
Therapeutic massage and energy work make it easier for that to happen.
“Deep down I am a believer in the strength of the human spirit not only
to survive but to live and prosper. My practice offers me the
opportunity to extend a helping hand, so to speak, and make a difference
in someone’s life.”
When not working at Amethyst Center, Shirley is active as a
professional musician – a singer and cellist. She studies traditional
African Dance, creates jewelry, and engages in a variety of handcrafts.
Shirley also studies and works as a shaman, offering self-discovery and
healing rituals.

Whether
you have received massages before, or you are having your first massage,
a Kriya Therapeutic Massage is a wonderfully relaxing, comforting and
balancing experience. At the very least, you may become relaxed and
open. Your body may feel freer and have more flexibility. You may feel
a sense of calm and peace.
On a
deeper level, you may feel warmth, or “energy” moving through your
body. As the muscles and joints are manipulated, toxins are released
into the bloodstream and rise to the skin’s surface. This release of
toxins, along with the flow of energy, may help to loosen emotions and
feelings that are being held in the body. As you are ready, this
release allows you to tap into the subconscious part of the mind, taking
you to many levels of awareness.
You may
feel as if you have been asleep or in a trance during the session, and
yet completely aware of what is happening at any given moment.
Alternately, you may fall completely asleep and wake up at the end
refreshed and relaxed. Each experience is different from session to
session for each person and for the practitioner.
Your massage session may incorporate numerous modalities, applied
with the utmost care for you. A full body Kriya therapeutic massage may
include breast massage (see box), as well as massaging the abdomen and
buttocks. The session can last up to two hours, thus allowing the
therapist time to intuitively listen to your body and address your
individual needs.
Sessions
may include Kriya, deep tissue, and Neuromuscular massage, Shiatsu or
assisted stretching, muscle energy techniques, strain/counter-strain,
Acupressure, Reiki, reflexology, trigger point and myofascial release.
All modalities are performed to your level of comfort, which is
ultimately more beneficial in facilitating the healing process. |
